OUTLINE
Huis van Raay is without a doubt one of the most glorious and magnificent historic merchant houses on the canals or "gracht" in Amsterdam. Featured in guides and prominent to any tourist walking along its glorious location, shared with the notable Museum van Loon next door.
The building has an imposing entrance and hallway lined in period marble. It conversion into 7 top quality apartments whilst integrating the ample gardens and converting the former stables into precious car garaging was a delicate challenge requiring sensitivity and style.Constraints: Monumental details in abundance!, Enormous entrance and marble round stairs.
CONCEPT / VISION
There should be no visible or apparent difference between this building and the Museum van Loon next door at number 682, whilst it had to contain 7 large (250m2) apartments. The content of the museum is the house itself and its former inhabitants. It is the twin building of Huys van Raay, also a famous canal-side merchant house.
