De Decanije

OUTLINE:
The conversion of a classic 6 hectare estate in the centre of Vorden into an exclusive residential park, composed of four separate classic urban villa’s with a total of 40 apartments and two hotel rooms.

The estate originally had had several mayors of Vorden as landlords and later served as clinic or rest home for Dutch railway personnel. Having fallen into disrepair for several years, the main "Villa" building had deteriorated beyond being restorable and was rebuilt in a style which respected the original conception of the estate design and layout.

CONSTRAINTS:
Retaining the exclusive and historic character of the estate whilst constructing a new Villa and 3 secondary urban villa’s. Each villa unit has its own indoor parking in the basement. The mission was that the refurbishment should retain the homogenous character conceived by the architect, the leitmotif being “It should look like it has always been there” and we are happy to say that this mission has been admirably well accomplished.

CONCEPT:
Even in eastern Holland, a relatively low density area of Holland where there is room for all, where houses tend to be large and gardens even larger there should be a market for exclusive apartments. Contrary to all advise (no one chooses an apartment when houses are abundant!) De Decanije has become the most sought after prestigious development in the area, attracting mainly older clients who have planned their retirement in the quieter and historic eastern region of Gelderland. 

Only years later did the concept of senior apartments in high quality locations became a "hot" item in real estate. De Decanije became the starting point for Sequoia Residences, a VictoriaLofts venture , specialised in creating senior residential projects of high quality, with its signature infrastructure.
